Tommy William Bassett, a beloved and cherished family man, passed away peacefully on June 6, 2026, in Morrow, Georgia. Born on June 28, 1934, in Alabama, Tommy’s life was marked by his warm spirit, enduring sense of humor, and deep devotion to those he loved.
Known far and wide as a big jokester, Tommy always had a way of bringing laughter and light into any room. His love for joking around wasn’t just a pastime—it was a reflection of his zest for life and the joy he found in spending time with his family and friends. Through his quick wit and easygoing nature, he made countless memories that will remain treasures in the hearts of those who knew him.
Tommy’s career as a glazier was more than a profession; it was a craft that reflected his dedication and skill. He took pride in his work, just as he did in nurturing the bonds of kinship and friendship that defined his life.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Julia Ann Bassett, whose partnership shaped many of his happiest years. He also leaves behind the sorrowful loss of his son, Mike Bassett, and grandson,Timothy Chance New. His parents, Ridley and Lillian Bassett, watch over him from beyond.
Yet, Tommy’s legacy lives vibrantly on through his loving daughter, Dale Bassett New, and her husband Larry, who have stood by him with unwavering love. His daughter-in-law, Sue Ann Bassett, remains a cherished member of his family, as do his eight grandchildren, twelve great-grandchildren, and four great-great-grandchildren—each carrying forward the warmth and humor he so generously shared.
Tommy Bassett’s life was a rich tapestry woven with laughter, love, and unbreakable family bonds. Those who knew him will forever remember the sparkle in his eye and the comfort of his presence. Though he has left this world, the stories, the smiles, and the spirit of Tommy will continue to illuminate the lives of all who were fortunate to call him family or friend. In mourning his passing, we also celebrate the remarkable man who touched so many hearts with his big personality and even bigger heart.
