Kathryn Hayes was a beloved wife, mother, and grandmother. She was born in Carnesville, Georgia on March 25,1929, the youngest child of George and Pansy Mathews. She knew from a young age she wanted to be a nurse. Upon graduating high school, she attended Crawford Long School of Nursing in Atlanta, the first in her family to pursue higher education. While in nursing school she met Carl, a young Georgia Tech student, who was quickly smitten with her. The two were married in 1949. Kathryn received her RN certification and enjoyed a 25-year career as a public health nurse in Fulton County while raising three children. Her love of travel took her all over the world and her love for people around the world made her a passionate supporter of international Christian missions. She loved animals, especially her kitties, and she took great pride in the beautiful flowers she grew in her backyard. But nothing made her quite as happy as spending time with her family.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Carl E. Hayes; sons, Mark Hayes and Marty Hayes; son-in-law, Alan Massey, and grandson, Greg Hayes. She will be lovingly remembered by her daughter, Sherry Hayes; daughter-in-law, Debbie Hayes; grandson, Brad (Ashley) Hayes; grandson, Jeremy (Christy) Hayes; granddaughter, Rebecca (Josh) Durrance; 8 great grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, you are welcome to make a donation in Memory of Kathryn Hayes to the Clayton County Humane Society Memorial Fund at 7810 N. McDonough St. Jonesboro, GA 30236.
