Katherine "Kathy" Mathis Pope

November 22, 1949 — May 14, 2024

Dawsonville, Georgia

Katherine "Kathy" Mathis Pope, known for her dedicated service as a bookkeeper for Clayton County Public Schools for over 30 years, left an impact on all those she encountered. Born in Washington, Georgia on November 22, 1949, Kathy's journey came to a peaceful close following a long battle with cancer, on May 14, 2024, in Dawsonville, Georgia.

Kathy was a beacon of kindness and generosity, touching the lives of many with her genuine love and care for others. Her deep-rooted relationship with God was evident in the way she ministered to those around her and found solace in her faith.

In her spare time, Kathy found joy in crafting, quilting, sewing, embroidery, and sharing her home cooked treats with family and friends. A devoted member of Conley Baptist Church in Forest Park (which became Brushy Knob Baptist Church) for most of her life, Kathy recently joined Spirit Baptist Church in Dawsonville, where her spirit continued to shine brightly.

Kathy was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 40 years, Ricky Lynn Pope, as well as her parents Edwin and Louise Mathis, and brother Harold Mathis. She is survived by her loving daughter Wendy Collier and husband Mark, son Bryan Pope and fiancée Brenda Medrano, daughter Amy Parker and husband Andy, cherished grandchildren Ben, Mel, Katie, Andy, Chloe, and Bailey; 5 great-grandchildren; cousin Jimmy Satterfield, and several other beloved family members.

A visitation to honor Kathy's memory will be held at Thomas L. Scroggs Funeral Directors in Morrow on May 20th at 11:00 AM until 1:00 PM followed by a funeral service at the same location from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM. The burial will take place at Fairview Memorial Gardens in Stockbridge from 2:30 PM to 3:30 PM on the same day.

Kathy's legacy of love and compassion will continue to inspire all who were fortunate enough to know her. Her memory will forever remain etched in the hearts of those she touched with her unwavering kindness. May she rest in peace.
