Joyce Dunn Phillips, born on May 21, 1930, ascended to heaven on November 11, 2025. She
was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 68 years, Harry, parents John Smith Dunn
and Edna Louise Dunn, sister Margaret Long and brothers Bill, Bob, Lewis, Tom and Frank Dunn.
She is survived by her loving children Harrison Phillips, Deborah Duncan and Michele Kirk, five
grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
Joyce was a devoted member of Jones Memorial Methodist Church, where her faith shone
brightly in all that she did. God always came first in her life and she kept a daily spiritual
practice. Mother Nature was her sanctuary - she had a 'green thumb' and found peace and joy
in the beauty of God's creations.
Known for her warm smile and generous spirit, Joyce truly loved people. Family came just after
God in her heart and her home was always open to all - she created a special place where
everyone felt welcome and loved. She was the strongest and most gracious woman her family
has ever known, a steady source of love, faith and strength - a classic southern 'Steel Magnolia'.
Her kind heart touched everyone who knew her. The beach was her 'happy place', where she
felt closest to God and the greatest peace.
Funeral services will be held Monday at 1:00pm at Thomas L. Scroggs Funeral Directors, with
visitation beginning one hour prior to the service. Internment will follow at College Park
Cemetery.
Joyce will be forever remembered for her faith, her love and the beauty she brought into the world.
