Capt. Glenn "Dan" Todd (Ret.), age 73, fell asleep in the Lord on August 23, 2025. The youngest of three boys, he was born in Ohio in 1952, to Gordon and Kathleen Todd. He served as a Special Deputy with Van Wert County Sheriff's Office while attending Ohio Northern University. After finishing his Bachelor's, he married his highschool sweetheart, Rosie, and set out on a life-long journey together away from their family roots in Ohio.
Dan continued his public service career conducting research for the National Institute of Health while working on his Doctorate from the University of Kentucky. After graduating, he accepted a direct commission as a provisional Lieutenant Commander with the United States Public Health Service, assigned to the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) in Atlanta, Georgia.
During over forty years of public service, thirty were spent on active duty responding to international and national health emergencies, including the toxic exposures of first responders and others affected by the September 11th attacks. He would retire from the Commissioned Corps at the rank of Captain, and continue working as a civilian with CDC and their Emergency Operations Center. After retiring again in 2020, he would spend his later years wholly dedicated to caring for his wife of fifty-one years.
Dan was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather, and his hobbies were always centered around his wife and kids. These included music concerts, traveling across the United States and Route 66 numerous times with his wife, attending automobile racing events, and playing endless games of whiffle ball with his sons and grandchildren over the years.
Following his father's influence, liberal arts education was important to Dan, who would support his two sons to both go on to complete advanced degrees and enter public service. His first son, Brian, would become a "Triple Dawg", earning his Bachelors, Masters, and Doctorate from the University of Georgia. He currently serves as a professor of conservation biology who oversees research programs for the University of California Davis. His second son, Fr. Dcn. Christopher (Kevin), would complete Masters in three separate fields and is a paramedic firefighter and law enforcement chaplain with the Ukrainian Catholic Church. He currently serves as an instructor for the Georgia Department of Public Safety.
Dan is predeceased by his daughter-in-law Kristin, and is survived by his two older brothers, Tony and Robert, his wife, their two sons, and seven grandchildren (aged two months to twelve years).
Funeral services will be held at St. John Chrysostom Melkite Greek Catholic Church in Decatur beginning at 3:00 pm on Saturday, August 30, with a fellowship meal and family visitation immediately following at 4:00 pm.
Fr. Elias Dorham will be presiding with other visiting clergy in attendance. Internment will be on a later date at the Georgia National Cemetery with full military honors.
