Elsie Cox Overton, formerly Elsie Cox and maiden name Jones, of Hall County, Georgia, passed away peacefully at her home in Cohutta, Georgia, surrounded by her loving family. She was born in 1919 and dedicated 22 years of her life to working with Avon before retiring in 1983.
Elsie was a devoted member of Rock Spring Baptist Church since 1983 and cherished a close personal relationship with God. She found solace and comfort in her faith throughout her life.
She is survived by her four grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; sister Bertha Harkins of LaFayette, GA; several nieces and nephews; and a host of friends, and she shared a special bond with her dear friend, Retha Mitchell.
Elsie was preceded in death by her first husband, Luke Cox, Sr.; sons Luke Cox, Jr., Philip Cox and David Cox; grandson, Garrett Cox; as well as her second husband Johnny Overton.
Elsie will be remembered for her unwavering faith, kind heart, and the love she shared with family and friends. Her legacy will live on in the memories of all those whose lives she touched. May she rest in peace.
A visitation will be held on Tuesday, March 26, 2024 between the hours of 5:00 PM and 7:00 PM at Thomas L. Scroggs Funeral Directors. A Funeral Service will be held in her honor on Wednesday, March 27, 2024 at 1:00 PM in the chapel of Thomas L. Scroggs Funeral Directors with Rev. Mark McKee and Rev. Tommy Aman officiating. Elsie will be laid to rest at Forest Hills Memorial Gardens following the service.
