Doris Rogers

August 23, 1928 — June 28, 2024

Griffin, Georgia

Griffin, Georgia – Abraham Lincoln once said, “All I am and all I hope to be, I owe to my mother.” I can say the same about my mom; she embodied a level of humility, selflessness, and unwavering love that I can only hope to someday possess. She will be dearly missed by all who were fortunate enough to know her.

Having lived a full life, Doris Rogers, 95, of Manchester NH, Rutland VT, and Weare, NH passed away peacefully on June 28, 2024. She was born August 23, 1928 in Manchester NH, the daughter of Robert W. and Elizabeth (Therriault) Freese, Sr.

Growing up during the Great Depression and WWII, Doris graduated from Manchester Saint Joseph High School in 1945, after which she worked at a local department store while awaiting the return of her longtime sweetheart, Chet, from submarine duty during the war. After the war, they wed and celebrated 75 years of marriage in February, 2022 just prior to his passing.

Doris worked for many years at St. Mary’s Bank while living in Bedford NH and then successfully served as the assistant treasurer for Central Vermont Public Service Corporation in Rutland VT for nearly 20 years, prior to retiring and returning to her beloved Weare, NH home. In her leisure time, Doris especially valued crazy family Christmas gatherings and fun-loving informal get-togethers with family and friends. She will fondly be remembered by immediate family for her independent grit, 7 layer bars, excessive use of scotch tape, hiding money in gifts, and Ho-Ho’s.

In addition to her parents and her husband, she was also predeceased by a brother, Robert Freese Jr. Surviving are her sister, Theresa Philbrick of Manchester, NH; son, Jeff Rogers and his wife, Julie, of Griffin, GA; two grandchildren, Matt Rogers of Signal Mountain, TN and Lindsey Newton of Macon, GA; and three great grandchildren.

Following cremation, Doris will be returned to her treasured New England and interred at the New Hampshire Veteran’s Cemetery in Boscawen NH along with Chet. Never wanting to be the center of attention, it was Doris’ desire that no ceremony be conducted. In lieu of a ceremony, the family requests that friends spend some special quality time with their loved ones in her memory. Those that wish to remember Doris in a special way may make gifts to her favorite charity, St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.

The Connor-Healy Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 537 Union Street, Manchester, NH has the honor of assisting the family.
