Charles Edgar Fulghum, aged 102, left this life and entered heaven on July 3, 2025. He was born November 15, 1922 in Atlanta, GA to Willie Sutton Fulghum and Amy Ola Lindsey Fulghum. His father was a member of the US Army and Charles grew up on several Army bases, including Ft. McPherson and Ft. Oglethorpe, GA, Ft. McClellan, AL and Scofield Barracks, HI. He graduated high school in Hawaii in 1941. While still living in Hawaii, Charles witnessed the attack on Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941. He returned to the US with his mother and brother in 1942 and enlisted in the U.S. Navy later that year. He served in the Pacific on several ships, including the second USS Atlanta until the end of the War. He left the Navy in 1948 and joined the newly formed U.S. Air Force in 1949. He served in the Air Force at Hunter AFB, Savannah, GA, Fairford AFB, England, and Warner Robins AFB, GA until 1966 when he retired. He then went to work for Delta Air Lines in Atlanta, GA and lived in Forest Park, GA until his second retirement in 1985. After his retirement, he and Willene enjoyed some travel and he volunteered with the Kiwanis Club in Forest Park and Morrow. They moved to Stockbridge, GA in 2000 where she died in 2002. In 2006, Charles moved to Vidalia, GA to live with his brother, William, and lived there until 2020. He then lived with his daughter and son-in-law in Greensboro, GA, until his death. He was a faithful member of several churches during his life including Southside Baptist Church in Savannah, GA, Central Baptist Church in Warner Robins, GA, First Baptist Church in Forest Park, GA and First Baptist Church of Morrow, GA serving as a deacon in them several times. He attended Higgston Baptist Church while living in Vidalia.
He married the former Sarah Willene Youmans in February 1950 and they were married 52 years until her death in June, 2002. He is survived by two children: Carolyn Fulghum Allwine and her husband, Nash, of Greensboro, GA; Charles S. Fulghum and his wife, Gina, of Forest Park, GA; four grandchildren, Alicia Putman (husband, Richard) of Dripping Springs, TX, David Allwine (wife, Stephanie) of Kingsland, GA, Cole Fulghum of Gainesville, GA and Chandler Severson (husband, Juwan) of Vinings, GA; eight great-grandchildren, Zach Allwine(wife Chellbe), Kimberly Roque (husband Josh), Selena Cook, Adam Allwine (wife Leslie,) Bella Rogers (husband Eric), Jadon Putman (wife Makayla), Ryan Allwine, and Brenna Putman; and four great-great-grandchildren, Penny Roque, Ronin & Grayson Allwine, and Freya Rogers. He is also survived by brother-in-law, Pete Stokes of Perry, GA; and numerous nieces and nephews.
