Barbara Ann Norris, a cherished soul whose life was a testament to resilience, love, and generosity, passed away on May 18, 2026. Born on February 4, 1941, in LaGrange, Georgia, Barbara’s journey through life was marked not only by her unwavering spirit as a breast cancer survivor for 33 years but also by the warmth and joy she brought to all who knew her.
Barbara's talents were many, but none so fondly remembered as her culinary gifts. Those privileged to partake in her meals could attest that "everyone really liked her cooking and came back for more." Beyond the kitchen, Barbara’s passion for gardening was evident in her lush, vibrant garden—a direct reflection of her "very green thumb" and love for nature’s quiet beauty.
Among Barbara’s proudest accomplishments was the deep affection she held for her beloved grandkids and the dogs she adored and spoiled rotten. Her family was the heartbeat of her existence, a source of boundless pride and joy.
She is survived by three daughters: Deborah Peters, wife of Terry Peters; Terrie Dillard; and Michelle Agan, wife of Michael Agan. Her legacy also lives on through three siblings: Robert Childree, married to Dolly Childree; Glenda Johnson; and Mildred Clifton. The family circle extends warmly to include ten grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild, alongside numerous nieces and nephews who carry her memory forward.
Barbara was preceded in death by her father, Harry B. Childree; mother, Mildred Marie Conner; husband, Willis Otto Norris; son, Timothy Otto Norris; and brother, James Lamar Childree. Their spirits remain entwined with hers in eternal peace.
Visitation will be held at Thomas L. Scroggs Funeral Directors, located at 6362 South Lee St., Morrow, GA 30260, on May 21, 2026, from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. Following visitation, a graveside service will take place at Sherwood Memorial Park, 6841 Tara Boulevard, Jonesboro, GA 30236, from 11:30 a.m. until 12:30 p.m.
Barbara Ann Norris leaves behind a legacy enriched by her strength, compassion, and the countless lives she touched with her kindness and culinary artistry. She will be remembered not only for her remarkable survival and enduring spirit but for the abundant love she freely gave, creating a garden of memories that will flourish in the hearts of her family and friends forever.
2 Corinthians 1:3-4
3 Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort, 4 who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves receive from God.
