John Willie Padgett

John "Pete" Padgett passed away on January 4, 2018. Mr. Padgett was born in Newberry, SC., the only child of James Allen Padgett and Mayonie Smith. He married Dorothy Louise Danielsen on June 13, 1942. They were friends since childhood in the West End Community of Newberry. They had two children, Danny and Cathy. He served in Army Air Corp as a waist gunner on a B-17, flying 50 missions. He was discharged as Staff Sergeant, September 23, 1945. He attended Newberry College under the GI Bill, graduating with a BA degree; joined the US Postal Service after graduation, from which he retired. While working for the U S Postal service at the Atlanta Air Mail terminal, he joined the army reserve and retired as Captain. He was preceded from this earthly life by his daughter, Cathy and his wife of 74 years, Dot. He is survived by his son, Dan; 6 Grand, 8 Great Grand, and 5 Great-Great Grand children; 2 sisters-in-law, and numerous nieces and nephews. He made friends everywhere he went, most recently at Benton Manor Assisted Living, who became his extended family. In lieu of flowers, the family request donations be made to the Alzheimer Foundation or charity of your choice in his memory. We will celebrate his life at Thomas L.
