Helen Elaine Kemp

January 16, 1942 — October 30, 2016

Helen Elaine Kemp of Winter Park, Florida, went to be with her beloved Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on October 30, 2016. Survivors include her brother and his wife, Stan and Brenda Kemp of Jonesboro, GA; nieces and nephews Cindy Hendershot, Sandy Geisler, Randy Kemp (Pam), Diane Goodroe (Joey), Amy Inman (Bob), niece-in-law, Nina Adair (Doug) and their many children. Elaine is preceded in death by her mother and father, Gertrude and Edwin S. Kemp, along with her brother, James Kemp; sister, Betty Tarpley and nephew, Joel Tarpley. Elaine loved her family and friends dearly. She invested herself in and prayed for each of them. She had no children of her own but adored her nieces and nephews and loved spending time with each of them. She loved the Bible, and it was the first thing she read each morning. God was first in her life and this was evident if you knew her. She also loved her animals and in the past would visit nursing home residents with her dog, Maggie and was training her new best friend, Gracie to do the same. Elaine graduated from Jonesboro High School and the University of Georgia with a degree in Journalism. She worked briefly for the Atlanta Times and then taught in the Atlanta Public Schools. She joined the staff of Campus Crusade for Christ (now known as Cru) in 1974. Elaine was currently serving on staff with Cru. She loved her job and found joy in serving her Lord on a daily basis. She worked in many different positions with them and shined the love and light of her Savior to many. Her service included: working at Cru headquarters when it was located at Arrowhead Springs in California. She also worked with Cru's ministry of Here's Life America, Priority Associates and was currently serving with Cru City local team ministry in Orlando, FL. In her most recent role she was involved in mentoring women through her neighborhood and reaching out to women involved in sex trafficking helping them to heal and live a good quality of life. She also used skills in helping to make other people more aware of sex and labor trafficking. Funeral services will be held Monday, November 7, 2016 at 2 pm at Jonesboro First United Methodist Church, 142 South Main Street, Jonesboro, GA. Visitation will be at 1:00 at the church. Burial will be at Sherwood Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to CRU, Attn: Contributions, P. O.
