Corine C. Deyton

Eva "Corine" Croft Deyton, of Forest Park, Georgia, was born on July 29, 1937, and passed away peacefully at St. Catherine's Village in Madison, Mississippi, among family on February 24, 2016. She was preceded in death by her husband of thirty-three years, Jack Willard Deyton. Mrs. Deyton is survived by her son, Tommy Lowell Deyton and wife, Jan, of Clarkston, Michigan, and son, Dr. Timothy Jack Deyton and wife, Deborah, of Madison, Mississippi, her sister, Jean Chable of Jonesboro, Georgia, two granddaughters, Carlie Deyton and Summer Deyton of Clarkston, Michigan, three grandsons, Tyler Deyton of Clarkston, Michigan, T. Jack Deyton, Jr. and Alexander Deyton of Madison, Mississippi, and many nieces, nephews, and in-laws. Corine Deyton was born in Etowah, Tennessee in 1937, but her family moved soon thereafter to the Inman Park section of Atlanta, where her mother ran a boarding house on Delta Place. After graduating from Bass High School, Corine soon began working at Troutman Sanders Law Firm in Atlanta. She was the legal assistant to Stephens Mitchell, brother of Gone with the Wind author, Margaret Mitchell. In the early 1970s, Corine chose to come home to care for her two boys and to assist her husband in their company, Deyton Sewing Machine Service. She also served her community through working with the PTA at several schools in Forest Park. In the late 1980s, Mrs. Deyton began working for the Georgia State Department of Education, from which she retired in the early 2000s. Following her husband's death in 1993, Mrs. Deyton successfully ran for her husband's City Council seat in Forest Park. After two different stints as Councilwoman, she was elected Mayor of Forest Park in 2006, where she served until retiring in 2012. Visitation will be held on Friday, February 26, 2016, at Thomas L. Scroggs Funeral Home in Morrow, Georgia from 5:00 until 8:00 PM. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, February 27, 2016, at the First Baptist Church of Forest Park at 11:00 AM. Mrs. Deyton will be interred alongside her deceased husband at Forest Lawn Cemetery in College Park, Georgia. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Jude Children's Hospital.
